Hello,

Thought I would send this out to see what you feel and experienced? Has anyone been under the care of a psychiatrist and on meds to find themselves in a crisis and in hospital regardless of how much work your psychiatrist has put in. How long were you working with the psychiatrist and on med before you had a crisis and ended up in hospital?

thanks
Thanks for this!

Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to see a psychiatrist yet. I saw a therapist every two weeks (every week when needed) and a meds doc every 3 months (this is the only option I had due to my insurance). I did this for a little over a year and I had a crisis that ended me up in the hospital for 5 days. My meds were tweaked and then within a month I was admitted once again for another 3 days (yep..twice in a month). I ended up stopping my therapy and my meds. Now I'm on the verge of another hospital stay (if I go it will be the 3rd time in 6 months). I called and got an appointment with a psychiatrist in 2 weeks so I'm trying to hang in there until then.

I just got out of the hospital for being manic and suicidal and had been seeing my psych dr all along. I was on my meds, however, my zyprexa had been decreased for about 3 months when my episode happened.

Yes I have been but not for being suicidal, for being manic with psychosis. My pdoc and I tried actively to get it under control for 5 months and I was then hospitalized. However that was a normal pattern with my mania even on heavy meds. I just always had a way of avoiding hospital stays before that. At that point I had been medicated and had been under care for about 7 years.

In my case meds did not improve my moods in that whole time.

It's not uncommon at all for a patient who has been in care and medicated for a long time to still end up being hospitalized.
