my t said my stress level was pushing me into paranoia, just because I worry about my truck being gone every time I park it, or not starting or a million other things going wrong... I worry about not being able to complete tasks at work, I worry about losing that job,, she talked my pdoc into giving me Xanax, I have two favors to ask,, any suggestions dealing with the paranoia,, and any experiences with Xanax..i am working with my t but you guys have been there and I value your input.

I am always paranoid, just varies in degree. I take xanax .25 prn it's low enough dosage for me so I don't feel sedated, but it does curve my anxiety. And that's what it sounds like to me you have, anxiety! I have that too lol. low doses prn you should be fine. It's fast acting and doesn't last that long.

My doc gave me 20 pills to last until January of ativan. What a joke. Sometimes I go through anxious periods for days in a row.

That is terrible. I hope you have some thing else that helps even if just a little. I try to hold off on my xanax until I can't take it any more. But I could stretch 30 pills to end of Dec np. Not sure I could make it in to January! And that's 30!

Wow .. I get 90 1mg Xanax a month . I don't always take them of course .. But I do know that states everywhere are coming down on doctors about writing benzio scripts .. My husband has been on .50mg xanax at nite to sleep for over 2 years .. But his primary care doctor said he needs to taper off and offered him trazadone........

I have never asked for any increases so in my case there are no issues about me being addicted or drug seeking.

Mine lasted quite a while and when I got the refill script it was for MUCH less than the original. Arg.

I get paranoia too. I think it's part of my catastrophic thinking problem. Only recently I'm ready to face it, was too paranoid & superstitious to even mention it before. But it's a problem. If I'm calm enough I can talk myself through it, think it through rationally, challenge my beliefs. If I'm not in a good state, I hide in my room, cry, pace, panic.
I'm so sorry you're going through it.
The med might help. But benzo's you don't want to be on forever & docs could cut you off anytime... Or the gov could make them illegal. (Sorry that's prob extreme paranoid thinking right there :/ ).
Ideally, my goal, I will come to a calm place of peace where I understand that bad things are going to happen, they just do and it sucks. And I will somehow get through them. Look back on every hardship we have been through and we are still here.
It's like I hope to become a Zen master lol. Work in progress.

That's like an insult Moose, I'm so sorry . Personally, Ativan did nothing for me - I got quite angry with pdoc asking if it was some sort of joke sugar pill - that was many years ago. You're also a lot smaller than me though. Klonopin helped me for awhile... Now I'm just pissed that I'm addicted to it. 20 pills of ativan for 3 months?? Absurd. Insulting. I'm so sorry they're putting you through that. Get Xanax.

What am I supposed to do? Ask and be seen as a drug seeker? I just don't want to feel anxious and not be able to sleep. I also don't want to get hooked. Honestly, ativan does not make me high, but it does calm me. The higher dose does, anyway. Never tried Klonopin and tried xanax years ago. Like I said, how in the world do I ask for more pills and not be looked at sideways?

BEWARE OF TRAZODONE! Dangerous for men! Google the horrible side effects, one in particular can cause a painful erection that will not go down and will result in a ED visit and surgery! I will never take Trazodone. Besides all it did for me was make me yawn all nite with no sleep and gave a me a hang over effect the whole next day. Horrible crap.

My 16-year-old was on this čarlier in the year. It never put him to sleep. He still could be up playing video games into the wee hours of the night. Glad he's off it.

Double edged sword. . No you don't want to get hooked. But telling pdoc these pills aren't helping anymore - does not make you a drug seeker. F-ing jerk idiots should not have you worrying about that. Wouldn't we obviously wish all this bp, meds, all of it away if we could. Please speak up for yourself. But yea don't get addicted to anything. Idk my dear. I really don't know. There's got to be a balance. Maybe 20 yrs ago studies proved that people healed from physical injuries better when their pain was relieved. It was revolutionary. But bp is looked at differently. I hate this klonopin addiction, but I need to sleep at night or I go crazier.

Sorry went off tangent of paranoia topic.

They worry about any addiction to relatively mild sedatives, benzo's were introduced in the 60's to replace the much more actual dangerous barbiturates and doctors welcomed them in open arms! They are relatively harmless, death by OD is verry rare! Addiction is considered mild to moderate compared to other drugs. Now it seems everyone is benzophobic on both sides. And just look at the horrible even dangerous side effects from the so-called "safer" alternatives. Makes no sense to me.

Thats not unusual for here, doctors want to encourage patients to use coping skills instead of medication. But that is enough medication for the times it gets too bad for coping skills. I never have a problem getting benzos, but I only take them when it is desperate (ie I am a danger to myself or I am going to have a panic attack) I do not take them for run of the mill anxiety (which can be pretty bad but meds are to be a last resort not a first).

Back to paranoia, I only get truly paranoid when I am on the way up. Do you think this might be the case?

Mild paranoia at other times is caused by my thoughts and I can treat them with CBT.
