I'm happy about this. It makes more sense. I felt rushed out of her office but she said she had no problem changing it to Bipolar from the earlier label. The thing is, I am pretty sure my symptoms stem around energy and mood levels.

Looking at my whole life, I don't see similarities between me and people with schizophrenia. I know my mania can get bad, but it's not present when I am on mood stabilizers. I also take ADHD medication. It doesn't make me psychotic.

Hi welcome to bp forum
My dx's changed from depression & add & anxiety to bpII. Took many years. I still have add no doubt. I'm afraid when I see pdoc next, if I tell the truth, dx will change to bpI. A lot of people have bp with schizoaffective during episodes (my daughter has that).
So, welcome & glad you seem relieved to have a more accurate dx.

Why are you afraid? It won't change how you feel already. I'm bp1 and I've quite gotten used to it.

It's only a label. I used to get hung up on that too, but as my dx changed from NOS to BP 2 to BP 1, it became easier to deal with because the picture became clearer, and treatment was better targeted to my actual symptoms. Docs kind of throw meds at you in the beginning until they figure out what you really have. So if you tell the truth (which you ALWAYS should) and your dx is changed at your next visit, think of it as progress---now everybody knows what you're really up against.
