Have you guys ever noticed how many guests we have on our forum? Generally there are 10 or fewer members with 50 +/- 10 guests. What do you suppose that is all about?

I've noticed that, too. I always thought it was people researching us? Lol I don't know.

I think they havn't made up their minds about message board or it's not what they expected. Maybe they are not ready to talk about their illness with a bunch of strangers.

Typically there are a fair few guests on forums. People do a Google search for something like "Bipolar Disorder" or "OCD" and voila, they find PsychForums, which is fairly highly ranked in Google's indexing system. They then come here to find information for themselves or someone else about a psychological situation. It takes more effort and desire to actually sign up as a member and often people don't need to go as far as to even sign up to get the info they're looking for.

I have been sent here from google plenty of times. And also, I tend to skim through the forum without bothering to sign in sometimes - other people could be doing the same.

I lurked around here for many months before I decided to actually join as a member.. It's very common.

it could be people reading up on the threads, before deciding to sign up.

it could be people who are signed up, but in sted of using their acounts, viewing the forum as a guest (as they are too scared to post themselves, and use the guest feature because of it)

it could be people who want to use their information for their own purposes (to post other places etc)

it could be absolutely anyone..... it could be some child sitting somewhere not really taking what we say seriously

People often 'lurk' around forums for a while before deciding to join, if they do at all. I did for awhile before I was diagnosed, then joined afterwards. Sometimes it's people doing research for college papers or other academic uses (just think, we could be part of someone's Master's thesis!). Sometimes, it's just trolls. Who knows?

Yep - google led me here after I finally came to the conclusion that I am tired of fighting against the stream and need to start learning how to flow with it (sorry if that makes no sense)
