Well I have been on epilim for about 12weeks now and have always got a pot belly which is only new since I started this drug. I have also gained about three kgs which I have a real problem with. I could cope with the weight gain but the fat belly is just really gross I find it hard to deal with.
Just wondering what other peoples experiences of this drug are re bloating etc

I googled Epilim and people complained of unsteadiness but no one mentioned weight gain.

I would talk to your Psych about it, definitely. Has your mood stabilized? you may see weight gain and increased appitite.....so mention it to the doc....there are alot of side effects for this drug ...some not so pleasent.....keep in touch with the doc...the bottom line is....Has your mood stabilized...if not it might be better to try another med....good luck..

Well... my mood is still pretty up and down at the moment I am some where inbetween this might last 1,2, or 3 days if I am lucky then I am either irritable and anxious or depressed. Just had epilim blood test to day so hope they increase it we will see.
Someone else I know reckons the bloat could be caused by venlafaxine not epilim, Who knows?? My size aggravates the hell out of me. Guess I need to talk to the Doc. See her in a week and a half

Depakote/Epival/Epilim (depending where you live) is notorious for weight gain. I have gained a ton of weight on it. This brings a new set of problems. It does seem to work fairly well, though.

I've been on it for about 2 months, now on 200mg AM, and 200mg PM, and have not gained weight. I tihnk if anything, my appetite has decreased. I do feel bloated sometimes though.

I was on 200mg, and from Friday (5 days ago) I went up to 400mg. I found my mood was terribly unstable on 200mg (I don't know if it got worse as I started the meds.

I'm 33 now and I've been taking Epilim since I was 17, to treat epilepsy (I was on Tegretol for 5 years before starting Epilim). I was diagnosed with epilepsy at 12 years of age.
I take 3 500mg tablets a day and have been on this dose for years.
Like many of you, I've gained alot of weight being on this medication. When I first started it, my hair fell out in dribs and drabs and grew back curly. I also developed a tremor. These are the 3 main side effects I've had to deal with over the years.
A few months ago I had hypnosis done and that got rid of the tremor entirely, and it hasn't come back!
My hair is now just frizzy and hard to manage, but that I can put up with. My biggest concern is the weight. I've tried numerous times to get the weight off, but have been unsuccessful.

I was on and off Epilim a couple of times, and never noticed any weight gain, unless I was taking it in combination with Olanzapine. That was awful and I just felt really bad about myself.

I am back on it now, and will see how it affects me in the future. Here is hoping that it won't affect my appetite.

I take 500mg in the AM and 500mg at night and I have had no weight gain issues. Like some people have mentioned, I think I lost a bit of weight
