I'm currently on Saphris (atypical antipsychotic) and while for the past few months it seems to have worked wonders and kept me stable... I recently dropped into a major depressive episode. If you read my other thread you'll know why but it basically started on Halloween. I lost all control of my emotions and haven't felt right since :/ Last night I cried for 2 hours straight and felt the entire weight of the world, like it was coming crashing down on me. I felt like a terrible person and felt like nobody likes me and nobody ever will like me, etc etc. It's not as bad tonight but I'm still not myself. I'm trying to keep myself distracted because I'm about 2 mins away from crying at any given moment.

Anyway, I'm wondering if I'll benefit from adding an antidepressant. Just wondering who else here is on an antipsychotic and an antidepressant. Which one are you taking? Is it effective?

Thanks!

I'm coming off an antidepressant as we speak because even with the mood-stabilizing properties of Lamictal and Geodon, it seems to be fueling repeated hypo/manic episodes. I am having a hell of a time with withdrawal, and this being my second attempt at discontinuing the drug I'm determined not to go through it a third time.

If you can avoid even starting an AD, you'd probably be better off because it's hard to d/c if you flip into mania. I wonder why you're not on a mood stabilizer??

Im on a similar med combo to you but with a tiny dose of zoloft added. Honestly Im not sure if it is really doing anything as the Geodon is great at stabilizing my mood. I still have depressive symptoms but much of it can be dealt with without turning to medications.

Personally I'd wait and see if the mood changes as it doesnt sounds so severe yet. If you get suicidal then maybe there is call for a med change but at this stage it sounds all situational to me which may just resolve itself.

Do you have a history of depression? If you do then a small dose of a AD could benefit you. If not I agree with Supanova and see if you can wait it out. If your depressant gets worse then seeing your pdoc is highly recommended.
