has anyone during a manic episode tried to diagnose them selves with lots of other disorders? I believe during a possible manic or hypo-manic i convinced myself i was a sociopath and i was a heartless crazy person.

Me, too. A year and a half ago, I read an anti-psychiatric book at the urging of an (ex) "friend." I was extremely vulnerable at the time, having just had TMS Treatment for depression. "Friend" kept telling me to get off drugs using a "practitioner." There was no such thing available and so I honestly thought I would have to commit suicide. I was a mess. I saw a psychologist who was no help except for telling me that I had anxiety. Boy, did I! I then looked for other help and was fortunate enough to get four months of free treatment for PTSD which brought me back to life. The TMS treatment did not get rid of my depression but it got rid of my Fibromyalgia, which I knew was a possibility.
Trying to diagnose or un-diagnose yourself is NOT the thing to do! Talk to your doctor instead. What I did was change doctors and that was the smartest thing I ever did re having bipolar disorder. My old psychiatrist did not believe anything I told her and with a wave of her hand, dismissed any of my concerns. I believe she was a dangerous doctor. I think she needs to retire - or go back to Russia. TMS treatment is Trans-cranial Magnetic Stimulation, very, very expensive, rarely covered by insurance except in the NE states. It's on the internet. Quite a lovely experience - but it took me months to recover from that darned anti-psych book. No trying to diagnose yourself! PrairieCat |
