Well this is interesting, emerging research is suggesting that aspirin has mood stabilizing and antipsychotic effects. Here is one study: Aspirin: a review of its neurobiological properties and therapeutic potential for mental illness

Does anyone have any experiences with aspirin they can share? Thinking back, years ago my neurologist had me on a low dose aspirin regimen. I recall being very stable during that time period, in fact a year or so after starting that low dose regimen I entered full remission that lasted for three years. However, I was also on additional medications at the time.

I think an easy way for someone to study this further would be to conduct a mental health assessment on a control group, and of a group of individuals taking aspirin. Millions of people with heart failure take aspirin every day, you would just have to compare them to a similar control group that is not taking aspirin.

Very interesting, I'm going to try it again.

Aspirin for stroke or other medical reasons does not equate here. Why are you even proposing this on this forum? I don't understand.
Thanks for this!

I read something awhile back about taking an aspirin and N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) for mood stability. I'll have to look into that though...very interesting!

I've been taking aspirin every day since my knee surgery Sept. 12, with no effect on my moods. I take 650 mg enteric coated aspirin.

I've been taking 975mg of Aspirin per day for blood thinner. It has no effect on my moods.

If all it took to achieve mood stability was aspirin, why am I paying some $150/month for psych meds AND taking aspirin as a blood thinner?

Prune juice keeps my bowels regular. That's a proven medical fact, unlike aspirin as a mood stabilizer.

Well, imho regular supply of Haagen Dasz icecream could keep mood stable.

(of course, "side effects" may be simmilar to other "mood stabilizing" agents... let me conduct a study. Anybody wants to be me test subject?).

Genetic used to something about the aspirin helping her mood. Along with regular fresh lemon in water
Venus - yes white willow bark is where aspirin is derived? Don't chew too much, gets toxic. You prob know safe amounts better than me.

A long-standing and effective treatment for depression.

Hate to break it to you: enough evidence exists, no study needed

Scientists at Bayer Corp were able to isolate the active ingredient from willow bark, acetylsalicylic acid, over 100 years ago. Aspirin is made in a lab.
