I usually can't tell while the stressful situations are there, but after the stressful things have gone away and I still feel worthless, hopeless, and want to SI or attempt sui, I figure I'm probably actually depressed.

I am under attack by both right now. Depression and anxiety. Out of the blue for no reason this is the 3rd day. I can tell the difference because anxiety hits me bad, feels any thing like knots in my stomach to knife stabs with shortness of breath. General stress provides constant steady mild to moderate anxiety which I refer to as background noise. Depression I just feel sad, hopeless, or gloomy or nothing.

This might sound stupid but I just know the difference because when Im stressed its all worry & anxiety but it doesnt have the "sad" that comes with depression. With depression theres a deep sadness that I dont get when stressed.
