I received a letter in the mail from DSHS Division of Disability Determination Services for a Psyc Eval. I know this will help me with my claim, but I'm still kind of freaked out about it! I don't trust psychologists or psychiatrists. None of the ones I have seen in all my years has ever done anything positive for me. Therapists are different. They actually listen and give you feedback and sometimes even a few solutions. I know this guy is just there to evaluate me, but I hope he doesn't have the personality of a rock like the rest of them!

It should just be like an intake of a therapist or psychiatrist.

Yes, this is scary. I was not diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder II until I was 55. I had both that and Fibormyalgia. I was turned down! I appealed and had a hearing with my lawyer and I won! Do not worry so much about this. In my experience, psychiatrists are for meds only, they are the experts on meds. But they are also the only ones who can give you a diagnosis. Psychologists are more for counseling, just like therapists. They have studied human behavior. I have often wondered if psychiatrists have also! That is a joke. If they turn you down, all you need is a private psychiatrist to say you are mentally ill, to give you a diagnosis. In your state, it may just be one doctor or it could be more than one doc. Check with your state Dept. of Vocational Rehab or with a counselor to find that out. If they turn you down, keep appealing and never, ever give up. If you get a lawyer, that will help. Lawyers take only a small percentage of the settlement if you win and you get the rest and you also get monthly income. You can also get a lawyer that will not charge you anything if you lose. In my experience, that is normal. REMEMBER, NEVER EVER GIVE UP! Show them you are serious about this and YOU WILL GET IT. You just need to be determined to get it, know that you deserve and have patience. If you have any questions, ask away!

When I went thru the ssdi process the most annoying part was the paperwork. Just be honest and thorough when you have your assessment. Don't be embarrassed to disclose how you feel on daily basis ***as it pertains to employment. The PhD I had was very nice and don't look at them as the enemy. They are for the most part unbiased.

Thank you all for your replies! I have other things going on also, fibromyalgia, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc, thoracic outlet, and now tremors. I have a nerve conduction test on Dec 12th so that and the psyc eval will hopefully push it through.
