Hi I am new to the forum. I have found myself in an unfortunate situation. I have been at my job for 3 years and always have had above average work reviews. 1 week ago I was terminated reason being I omitted information on my post offer application 3 years ago. Postapplication application consists of medical questions and previous injuries. They would not tell me what I omitted just handed me a copy of my employee health records. What I found was 1 year ago I had a back strain outside of work. In order to return to work I had to be evaluated by work health clinic. In there I stated I had a prior work comp illness before my job there. When I filled out the post offer application 2 years prior I had no recollection of this. I had a series of ect treatments in 2009 and I suffered severe memory loss of some events. I remembered the work comp issue only because a coworker told me about it. I was told but still do not "really" remember. Now I am going through a dispute process. I am going to have to disclose the ect treatments to try and save my job. I work for a large corporation so not sure if they will even take it under consideration. Pretty much you left it off so your fired. I cannot prove that event was lost and they cannot disprove it. Fighting for my job but sure I will. Have to look for a new one. One more thing I was injured on the job had surgery tthis year. Just released from work comp last month with permanent restrictions. Yes I feel I was targeted but cannot prove it. I am a liability and the company is undergoing major budget cuts at this time. How do handle this delicate situation? |

It sounds like they were just looking for anything to fire you because of the permanent restrictions. I don't see fighting and disclosure of ect working in your advantage, sorry.

[B]Can you possibly talk to someone at your local Legal Aid office to get some advice? Hoo boy, it is a delicate situation. I also have had ECT and there was definitely short term memory loss. An attorney could possibly help you keep your job by getting a doctor's statement or personal appearance to explain that memory loss can occur, etc. I worked for many years but never had an occasion where I had to disclose this info to employers. It should be none of their business, but I see that in your case it could be necessary. The ECT calmed me down a bit when in a horrible marriage which I ultimately left, that's all it did for me. Also caused me 15 years of reliving the experience/PTSD; not fun, but it finally stopped. You may not want to keep your job but it's tough out there right now for so many who've lost their jobs and who have been on unemployment. There are not so many jobs out there right now. But perhaps there are for yours specifically. Don't give up! Good luck. PrairieCat ![]() |
