Is anyone else really socially awkward? When people in your life are having conversations with friends do you tend to avoid the conversation and do something else? If you were once socially awkward how did you deal with it and get over your fear of social situations? When my fiancé has conversations with his friends I tend to avoid them because I always end up saying something that has nothing to do with the conversation so I found it best to say nothing at all so I don't come off weird to them. My fiancé knows I am socially awkward. It usually only last till I get to know someone and it goes away but I have known his friends for over a year and I am still socially awkward around them. I love my fiancé and feel like when I get like that I embarrass him he never says I do but to me it feels like I have. Please help me I need advice bad.

I wish I had good advice for you but I don't. I too suffer from feeling extremely socially awkward. I always try to busy myself so that I don't look like a weird O. This happens to me quite a bit at work. I'm so sorry that you suffer with this also. Please know that you are not alone. Hang in there! God bless!

No you are not alone. I still have awkward moments. sometimes I want to isolate. sometimes I go on anyway. It just depends on what I need to face, It kind of reminds me of my fear of heights. I know that I need to conquer it. I just had to find a way to teach myself how. that s the scary part. How to not feel awkward or what ever it might be. So yes I know how it feels to be awkward. I am challenged just about every day. But then a funny thing occured to me one day. How can I get past this feeling. ??? They are just people . I would say tis to myself over and over again. And they haft to buy toilet paper just like me. I knew I could find something that would level the playing field. I hope this helped a little.

One of my favourite quotes when I start to feel socially awkward -
"The surest way to become Tense, Awkward and Confused is to develop a mind that tries too hard - one that thinks too much" When I relax everything just flows. Sometimes I feel like I have said something silly but its never anything too bad, most people arnt as judgemental as some most mentally ill people are. |

I don't judge his friends for the most part there is 1 or 2 I don't like. I don't like them because of things they have done in the past and still do to this day. For the most part being bipolar has made me withdraw from people because I know how society views people with mental illnesses. I tend to avoid people who aren't my family or my fiancé's family. You know people who I would come off as being rude if I didn't talk to them. Even in high school I kept a small circle of friends. Mostly they were the social rejects and the nerds. I did that because of being bipolar and also because I grew up poor and the popular kids always made fun of me. I wonder if that doesn't have something to do with me being socially awkward now. Sorry went off in a rant again.
