I think that depends. I asked my therp in a general way what she thought about my volunteering. I explained what I wanted to do and why. I knew what my passion was and was able to figure out away to do something around it that wouldn't effect my stability. Good luck! Volunteering is a wonderful thing!

Helping others is a wonderful thing to do. I think when you are busy helping others that it takes your focus off of your own problems. I say go for it!

Hi. My pdoc supports my volunteering. I go to AA at the women's jail once a week. It would be hard imo to work a suicide helpline because of the emotional exhaustion and great demand. Before AA bi volunteeed at a Literacy place where they wanted me to work many hours. I went manic and one day just walked out; it was embarrassing. I just know for me I needed time limits.
