Hi, I have bipolar 2, and am on Abilify, Luvox, and Effexor. I plan to see my pdoc in January, but was wondering if anyone takes a rescue med when you start getting symptoms of hypomania? Is there anything that can head it off, or do I maybe just need to increase the Abilify?

Thanks!

Binti

Hi Binti,
I think it is best that you call your pdoc and ask, as these things can be tricky and we are each so different. Yet, we are all so alike in many ways. We should never, ever hesitate to contact a doc and just ask.
Good luck!
Thanks for this!

I don't think there is any such thing as a "rescue med" but there are certain meds that are targeted towards hypomania like lamictal. They all take time and experimentation (if you are lucky to have a Dr. that is willing to put effort into it).

I have PRN Zyprexa for those times when the Geodon isn't enough to stop a manic episode.

See if there is a prescribed as needed drug that would be helpful. For me that often means sleep meds to reset my schedule.
