Nothing like a winter break and you just can't sleep, right! ISNT THAT JUST AMAZING
![]() When I was at my dad's last weekend I grabbed a box of OTC sleeping pills from CVS. Their brand. I only got enough for 6 doses (25 MG of diphenhydramine per pill, 2 in a dose) but I'm only taking one a night. I had to stop after two days to prepare myself for a sleepover and my body had already gotten used to the drug. I was damning myself for that one. It worked, but it worked in an odd way for me (maybe because I'm not taking the full dose. However, I'm only 15 and I don't want to start that **** early on.) I took it an hour before bed and I wasn't getting drowsy until the two hour mark. Then, I would wake up for a short amount of time halfway through the night, then fall back asleep and stay in bed until 11 because the pill hadn't even worn off yet! This never happens for me. I rarely sleep in past 8 on days off. And god, did it make me irritable! Yesterday morning my mom woke me up at 11 because we needed to drop off the rent check at our landlords and to my horror the pill hadn't work off yet. I was so angry at her...I hid it as well as I could in my drowsy, irritated state but she could still tell I was upset (she doesn't suspect pills, though. she thinks I was just upset about being woken up.) Honestly, I think the pills launched me into a super irritated hypomanic state for the few hours after I woke up because I was definitely experiencing some other symptoms. My thoughts were quicker than usual, I wanted to do a lot of things, I couldn't sit still, and my speech was disorganized (thoughts being quick and all.) God, how weird is that! ![]() Overall, I'm kind of glad these things work, but they are definitely not everyday pills. These will be saved for the periods of time where I just CANNOT sleep. God, and I'm going to have to take them and go to bed really early in case I sleep through my alarm. Blech. Not my greatest idea, but not my worst.

I tried everything, narcotic and non-narcotic, and I mean every thing! The best results I get are from seroquel! I sleep like a baby. There are some side effects. Dry mouth, and black outs including sleep walking. But I never experienced such rest and felt so great in the moring in over 15 years. No fog or hangover effect. I love it, nothing else including ambien has worked this good for me!

My friend found out the hard way that antihistamines such as the ones you find in sleep aids made her son hyper instead of sleepy.

Kristin Hersh, one of my favorite musicians, has trouble with the same thing. She says that nothing can knock her out, though - it's not just sleeping pills. She says that pills "sped her up."
