I just had the most inspirational and excited burst of creativity and my bf totally killed it I wanted to create a weight loss blog that tracks my diet/exercise habits on my journey to lose 20lbs! I thought it'd be fun and positive, and really keep me accountable, like "are you sure you want that candy bar today Sarah? You're going to have to write it down!" haha. Anyway, my boyfriend thinks it's a terrible idea (because I said I was going to share it on facebook). He said people would make fun of me behind my back and when I found out about it I'd be really upset. I have NO idea why he would say that to me! I would never make fun of someone, especially a friend, for doing something to help change themselves for the better. I would want to motivate and congratulate! But he thinks it's something negative, doesn't see the point, and thinks it's only another way for me to "publicly air my dirty laundry". Idk is he right? Is this a terrible idea? Or am I right in thinking I should do this, if I want to? He said "Idk maybe it's just a generation thing but I think it's stupid" (he's 8 years older than me and has a facebook profile but NEVER posts on it, I mean never. He hates fb). Idk what to do. I was so excited and amped up about it by now I'm not anymore He said things like "Why can't you do this for YOURSELF and keep a private journal. Why do you want to share everything with everyone all the time!" And IDK, I JUST DO. I'm an open person and I'd like to share my journey with my friends. If I'm successful hopefully it'll inspire other people to get motivated to lose weight for themselves too! What do you guys think?

Look at this from his point of view, he is the one who is going to have to pick up the pieces. There is a high chance of being judged for it, and you, being BPD are likely to go off the rails about it. And what happens if you publicly fail? How will you react to that? Just seems like attention seeking to me. Maybe a anonymous blog will be a better way?

Yeah, I see a bit of attention seeking too.

And as for "inspiring other to lose weight"... no offense, but that is not gonna happen. If one wants lose weight and has the willpower, they do (or if they have stomachflu, little money or are too busy, eh). If they don't have it in themselves then whole world can shed pounds and it will not happen for the said person.

If you really really really need to post about it, do it AFTER you achieved the goal. Otherwise, it can end up badly and can actually screw with your plan.

manicdepressive,
I suspect I am alot older than you are but if you want a diet-exercise buddy, I would be happy to be your cheerleader. I am also trying to lose weight and I am also looking for a little accountability. Just pm me if you want to consider this.

Good luck on your journey.

I think getting started with it and then posting after you've gotten into a grove may help keep you accountable.

Facebook might not be the best way to do things, however a compromise may be to make a thread on here and edit it every time you have to write something down. I for one wouldn't mind reading it and giving words of encouragement every here and then Nothing personal, but I apply this to myself as well. I'd like to think that when we're "developing" something, it is best to keep it behind closed doors and then "display" the results--just how artists and musicians release their works once they are completed and trust in the results themselves to reflect their hard work

I don't think posting about it on fb would really be all that helpful (unless the majority of your friends on fb are also already focused on losing weight?).

But, you might want to look up health forums and I am sure that there are lots of communities out there where people do make posts and hold each other accountable. It'd give you that moral support you're looking for, but also it would be with people you don't know.

I think that My Fitness Pal might be a good option for you. You can blog, chat and count calories. That way, you can do this without being too out there. Facebook is to intrusive, I think, and you could support others in a greater forum.
Thanks for this!

Thanks for all your replies everyone! I decided that I AM going to make a blog... BUT I'm NOT going to promote it to my facebook, and I'm not going to make it just about losing weight. I'm going to make it about "my journey to success" in general. I'm going to post about trying to become a better person, trying to get a new job, getting good grades, making to new friends, and anything else that adds a positive factor to my life

AND I'm also going to join a forum/website specifically for dieting like the ones you guys mentioned. I already know about My Fitness Pal... are there any others that anyone can recommend? Similar to MFP...

I say do it. Be comfortable in your own skin. I feel that sometimes with bi polar disorders, we are encouraged to hide under the radar and be as normal as possible. It's OK to do unconventional things.
