I'm currently taking 100mg Topamax, 600mg Trileptal and 50mg Seroquel.

My mood is finally stable but my concentration and short term memory are completely shot.

Anyone experience this? Anyway to overcome or improve it?

Topamax is known to cause mental dulling, so that could be the problem. Just guessing

I've been doing some research and it looks like both Trileptal and Topamax can affect concentration and memory. I hope it goes away as I adjust to the medication over time.

I'm not sure about topomax but you're on a fairly low dose of trileptal - I am at 900mg and have been all the way up at 1500mg. Seroquel is very low also. But maybe the combination of all of then is contributing to your cognitive effects.

I always have memory issues, even as a small child, so I can't blame it on the meds. If it doesn't improve, talk to your pdoc - maybe you can adjust something to see if ine or the other is causing the problem.

All 3 can cause your side effects ...

Doctors should always start with one medication at a time .. That way you will know the side effects of each one...

Or did you start all 3 at one time ?????

I started 2 at once in the hospital and Seroquel was added about a week later because I was still having problems sleeping. I know they are low doses but I am overly sensitive to psychotropic meds.

Yeah so am I. Sucks. As such I'm more likely to experience side effects and unusual ones at that. You probably are too. Best bet is to talk with your pdoc to try to figure it out.

Yes, my concentration and memory is very bad too. I had a good memory before starting on psych meds. My concentration has recently improved after dropping meds dose a few months back. My memory is still terrible. If I take even 25mg of seroquel now days, I can say goodbye to the few hours Im on it. I barely remember a thing.

I think the high doses of meds I have been on over the years has seriously affected my brain. I dont know if it will ever recover.

Well, I talked to my doctor and he thinks it's probably the Topamax and that the mental dulling won't go away. But it's worth the trade off to me. I'd rather be a bit flaky and stable than sharp and out of control.

I experience the same issues before I was taking Topamax. Mine actually kinda started right before I was diagnosed (after I had a surgery). Got worse when I first started taking other psych meds.
