After sleeping well for the last 2 months, I had insomnia last night. Maybe due to spring coming? Caught a cold, too. <sigh>

Hangin' in there

Watch out. I'm learning that being sick physically can bring on hypo/mania. I was in something of a mixed episode for a week or so, then I caught a nasty upper-respiratory infection which has done a number on my sleep because my asthma has flared up and I wake up coughing several times a night. I'm coming down now thanks to my PRNs, but I've been clearly hypomanic for several days.

So be careful, try to go to bed and get up at the same times each day, and of course use your PRNs if you have them or call your pdoc if you don't. Feel better soon.

From a layman, absolutely the change in seasons will change your sleep patterns. For me I notice this in the Fall and Winter. I want to sleep more hours so I have to make an effort to go to bed and get up at the same time. For me, easier said than done. Also, it is getting brighter in the AM, you may want to fix your window coverings to block out all light.

I've been having more insomnia in the past few weeks, especially through the 3 storms we had on the east coast. aaaargh.......I know the low light of winter makes me depressed sometimes, but I get happy when I watch the sunset. I agree, and will test it this time, as soon as Spring is here.
Getting slowly warmer, but that can change. Today I felt "inside" the call of Spring not far away. It was like a pull toward it. By now, though I also def think some people just adapt better to a certain climate.....for those of us who have off and on depression light is definitely important. And we get more natural Vitamin D from the sunlight. This is so essential to good health, I get prescribed once weekly, 50,000 IUs. Sleep well, I know, I'm up at 4:20 am.

Hypomania is low grade mania. It's the same symptoms as mania, but less intense. The mood can be elevated or irritable, and you get symptoms like less need for sleep, racing thoughts, extra energy, riskier behavior, more goal directed behavior, and hypersexuality. There can not be psychosis and you generally do not require hospitalization with hypomanis.

I know of I am sick or in pain that I am more manic therefore resulting in less sleep. I take my sleeping pills by eight and wake up around six so that works for me most of the time. Hope you get to feeling better.

I use the slash between "hypo" and "mania" as a shortcut. It's easier than typing "hypomania or mania" every time. (I experience both.) Or maybe it's just laziness.

There's nothing even approaching anything that resembles spring happening where I live! Hope you feel better...
