Does anyone have any experience with Trileptal and how long it takes to see major improvement? Any information would be appreciated. I have been prescribed it in conjunction with Depakote, Latuda, Cymbalta, Adderall, and Klonopin.

I started on it in august during an increasingly severe manic episode. The episode spun out of control and crashed into depression. I was in the hospital by then. Trileptal was increased up to 1200mg. Between that and risperdal it took about a week to see improvement. Had I taken it as prescribed and increased when I should have it might have helped quell the mania. But in any case it has been a real life changer. I get by on trileptal alone. I am having trouble being med compliant so I'm only taking 900mg. I still cycle but it is not as extreme and if I took my prescribed dose consistently I may not cycle at all. I only had one major depressive episode when I was being compliant and that was a direct result of a car accident that really messed up my life for a little while.

I've been on Trileptal for around 4 months now. It took about 2 weeks to stabilize my mood. The side effects (allergic reaction, drowsiness, disorientation, etc.) take around 1-2 months to go away after each dosage increase. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about the drug.
