It's been about a year since I started searching for a good med combination. My current Seroquel/Effexor/Restoril(prn) was actually working fabulously well.
But, with high blood pressure and diabetes running in my family like hard core, when I went to the doctor today with a weight gain of about 20 pounds in the last 4 months AND an increase of blood pressure, my doctor decided that it would be better for me to not take Seroquel anymore. A couple of things make me amazingly nervous about this: Seroquel is the only... literally ONLY thing that has ever made me sleep regularly. Secondly, I was just getting used to my mind not chattering away constantly. I had to deal with the chatter non-stop, 24/7 before I started it. I GET that it's overall bad for me and the downsides are now far out-weighing (literally... heh) the benefits, but damn. I'm just so tired of it. Also, she's leaving the Effexor as it is. When I FIRST went Effexor, it made me manic as hell. And it was for this reason that she increased the Seroquel to begin with. And I'm worried that the Seroquel was really the only thing keeping it in check. In short. I'm just scared a little. And tired of changing things around. This shouldn't be this hard.

It shouldn't be so hard. I hope that you and your doc find something that works as well as the Seroquel.

There are some good meds out there, the trick is finding them. I get what you mean about the Seroquel, as much as I try and fight the weight gain, It's made a difference in my sleep. I used to sleep 2-3 hours a night now I get between 6-8
We certainly do have our challenges, so many more than I realized. Be a participant in your care. Do research and discuss options with your doc, don't just sit by passively. We have to take control of this as much as we can. Good luck ![]() |

You can try some of the other anti-psychotics that might be good for your sleep and balancing out the Effexor - but Seroquel shouldn't be taken if you have a family history of diabetes, I remember mental noting that when I started doing research.
Totally sucks for you though! Hopefully things can get sorted out
