How are they? My 13 year old neice landed in one on Friday. She's holding her ground of threats and refusing medication until she's removed from her home. Is she safe there? Can they help her?

I know the one Ive gone to a few times has a adolescent unit and its great. Some of the children can stay there for up to a couple months but they help A LOT of kids!

I've stayed in three adolescent units. They are a MUCH nicer atmosphere compared to the adult units and yes: they take good care of you. Once, I had to be admitted but there were no adolescent beds available so they wanted to send me to an adult ward for the first few days (I was 15). My psychiatrist refused as she believed it wouldn't be a nice environment at all for someone of my age. This was my second admission.

In one of the stays I had an issue with bullying and that can be horrible but if you reported it it normally got dealt with. One night I was crying and feeling terrible so a healthcare assistant sat with me and comforted me. You don't get that as much on adult wards. I made some good friendships on adolescent wards - though that isn't the best of ideas (they all recovered faster than me and I was left without them in the unit and that hurt).

There was an 11 or 12 year old in one of the units (the youngest patient I came across) and he seemed to be well looked after.

Anyway yeah.
Try not to worry too much
