I can't live like this anymore, so my doc is putting me back on Seroquel. He will have me do a "loading dose" of 150mg today and tomorrow, and then go to 50mg a day.
I am SO Stinkin afraid of the weight gain, but this depression is killing me.
Thanks all for listening and for the support.

Actually, I don't remember any weight gain when I was on Seroquel. It's not an anti-depressant, and I remember them as being the worse for weight gain. I am going to go check what the internet says about side effects--and I'll be back.
Thanks for this!

I can't tolerate ADs; they put me in a mixed state. Seroquel evidently works on depression. We'll see.

I know many drugs are being used "off-label"--that is for disorders they were not originally used for. It helped me to really get a good night's sleep, and I could see how that in itself could help depression.

By the way, the site I went on said that weight gain with Seroquel is "rare."
Thanks for this!

You can definitely have weight gain with seroquel, but it's not as bad as zyprexa. It's good for bipolar depression. Sucks to have to worry about that side effect. Hopefully you won't gain too much if you watch your diet and exercise

I've been on Seroquel for about 2 years and have had no weight gain whatsover. My doses have ranged from 200mg to 700mg daily, and I have been on both XR and IR.

Seroquel made me really tired, and unmotivated to do anything, I stopped it after a short time, but it did help me have peace of mind.

I've looked up loading dose and can't seem to find anything on it. What does that mean? My doc just started it and I take 50 mg for 4 days and then 100 mg, and then 200 and up to 300 if it "isn't working"? What is working going to feel like I wonder?

I gained a ton on Seroquel. Of course, everybody's chemical makeup is different.
It gave me the munchies. If you can healthy munching food ready like raw veggies, that might help. You know about the weight gain, so just be proactive. Exercise etc.... Good luck!

I sympathize about the weight gain. But it's better than the extreme insomnia I had w/out seroquel. And if anyone tells you seroquel does Not cause weight gain---get this. I was on it for about 6 months. Gained around 35 lbs. (added to the 30 I gained on Depakote). I was about to go on vacation for 3 weeks. My MD was on vacation. Her Physician's Asst. told me "Stop taking all your meds while you're on vacation so you can lose weight."
I did, thinking she knew what she was talking about. Yes, I lost 20 lbs. in 19 days! And that was with eating TONS---full Scottish breakfasts, giant lunches, big dinners, snacks.
But I was crazy. After Day 3, no sleep at all. Talking a blue streak. Wrote 45 letters to a friend in the first 10 days. Seeing things, manic laughter, etc. etc.
Got home, called MD said "I did lost 20 lbs. but I went crazy going off the meds." She said "Why on earth did you go off your meds!" I told her the PA told me to. She was furious, said that was out of order. She made the PA apologize to me. I gained those 20 lbs. back within 2 weeks of going back on seroquel. I hate the weight gain but prefer being sane.

I'm not sure what is meant by "loading dose". My depression is severe right now, so maybe he wants to hit it hard. Don't know. I sure hope this goes well for us!

Weight gain on it is rare? I'd say not gaining weight on it is rare. It's well known for it.

I had just gone through a trauma & had just gotten out of the medical after about 1 1/2 months with anorexia along with dealing with my mother's funeral....i have to think my pdoc was hoping it would cause weight gain...but i couldn't sleep from the nightmares from the trauma so the sleep that 600mg gave me when i only weighed 93 lbs was very much needed. I just hated the hung over feel...but i was pretty useless at the time so i really didn't care
