What is it about the fact, other waiting for it to kick in, that I like about Wal Mart Sleep Aid that makes my anxiety and worry go away along with relaxing me? Is there something that would have same effects without drowsiness? If so, I think it would work better for me than my Depakote.

Hello, Lmciyah. Your question is one for your psychiatrist to answer.

Try Valerian root or a low dose (1 -3 mg a day 3x a day. Any more will make you sleep) start with 1 mg and work up from there. This is always a good thing to use before adding any med be it sleep aid, cold medication, herb or psych med. I have it on my phone so I can check it and ask questions when I'm with any Dr.

Thanks for the Valerian root tip. I'm going to look into that for my wife.

Valerian root hasn't been widely studied, if you try it just make sure there are no interactions with your current meds.

A doctor is still the safest bet when you're thinking of trying new medications.

Valerian is also processed through the liver and too much can be toxic...can be used in 3-4 days and then take a break.

I agree. I just started using Valerian root and it works well. I make a tea out of it. It tastes nasty but it helps
