Can someone who has been diagnosed with Hypomania please explain to me the symtoms and what it is like to have this. I haven't been diagnosed but would like to know first hand from someone that has this and not something i've read. Thank you.

Hypomania would be like mild mania. I am Bipolar II, so my mania is not as strong as it is in Bipolar I. Excess energy, talking a lot and often fast, happy, excited, etc.
Thanks for this!

When I'm hypomanic I become horribly irritable and weepy, uncontrolled crying all the time. I have difficulty sleeping. My speech is definitely faster. I spend money out of control and eat excessively.

I don't get true mania, it's more of a mixed mania/hypomania.
Thanks for this!

For me it's out of control crying for no reason, angry for no reason then really happy like I could tackle anything. Rapid speech. Being hyper. Spending money esp on things I don't need. I don't do this one now but I used to be hyper sexual and would go into back to back relationships and sleep with them fast. You know when you meet someone, hang out, decide to go to dinner then back to my place.then move into together a few weeks after that. That is called risky behavior. So ya that's bp2. Mild mania

trouble sleeping, restless, energized sometimes, risky behavior, impulsive, thrill-seeking... etc.

That is my hypomania.

My mania is much different, its rare, and its awful.

I was diagnosed last year and they tried me on medication but now I am waiting to get in to get new meds. It's just my Family Doctor is really upsetting me(they're in denial, won't even acknowledge the word Borderline). Currently I'm not doing any therapy, they tried and I ran away (couldn't handle it...too upsetting).

So you've been diagnosed bipolar and borderline?

I don't think they have any meds that are effective for BPD. I could be wrong though. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) has been shown to improve BPD considerably, but it can be challenging to commit to it. On the other hand, it's skills therapy and not "deal with your trauma" therapy.

I hope you can get on the right meds for bipolar. It stinks that you have to wait. I personally think that a psychiatrist is better than a family doctor for diagnosing and prescribing. Is it hard to find a pdoc where you are?

I am seeing a psychiatrist for meds and my doctor didn't diagnose me, I was diagnosed by a professional. My family doctor is just being oblivious to it. I wasn't diagnosed with bipolar, it just runs in the family.

Glad to know that you are seeing a psychiatrist.

BTW, I was way off base about medications for BPD, apparently there are some that are currently being used in conjunction with therapy. Sorry about that

That sucks that your family doctor is in denial.

I didn't add anything about hypomania because people here have generally covered it. I don't get the anger and irritability as much as I used to. But I do get really happy, rapid speech, taking on too many projects and making lots of plans. The other side of it is that it is usually followed by a crash into depression.
