I began experiencing acute dystonia on Geodon. I can't find a lot of information on it...for a long time I didn't even know what I was experiencing. The main symptom I experiencing is eye spams that cause my eyes to roll for hours on end...before I started taking Benadryl regularly it would go on for hours and hours. Now the episodes are shorter...usually half hour to an hour. It makes me incredibly anxious. I also clench my jaw and grind my teeth to the point of chipping them. I don't think it's very common with newer antipsychotics. I get so nervous about trying any other antipsychotics or changing my dose. Right now I am on 80mg of Geodon and 40mg of Latuda.

Hello, Fantastically_July.

Dystonic Reaction Induced by Ziprasidone

It appears adjustments are indicated to deal with what you are experiencing. The sooner you talk to the psychiatrist the sooner you should start feeling better.

I wish you well.

If you are having such severe reactions you should go to ER for immediate treatment. You will need a med change

This sounds like tardive dyskinesia which can be permanent and untreatable even after med discontinuation...they are probably going to want to discontinue your meds quite rapidly for a bit until it resolves as curiosity said go to the ER you don't want it get stuck with this forever...also you might want to get a mouth guard or some gum or something so you're not breaking teeth. Hasn't your pdoc been monitoring for this? I had to periodically stick my tongue out etc to see if I was developing symptoms....

I think it's not tardive dyskinesia. It sounds like an acute oculogyric crisis. That is an emergency. TD develops over time.

The jaw clenching part sounds like TD....you can get it literally overnight in some cases ...either way it's serious and needs immediate care...

Read the wiki....it does have the jaw clenching....I think you are right but yeah ER stat....

It does say Benadryl is a treatment but also that the meds should be discontinued....which will have to be managed carefully for APs....regardless this is a get to the hospital thing not an ask the internet thing....

I agree it needs urgent medical attention regardless what the cause is.

I was on.latuda for two months and experienced increased side effects as the weeks went by. The worst was insomnia and involuntary muscle movements...then clenching of my jaw. I got right off of it. I may be wrong but it could be the latuda and not the geodon. I'm on 80mg 2x.a day of geodon and have no side effects except it makes me tired when I'm trying to wake up in the morning. Nevertheless get help asap. It sounds like you are having really bad side effects to one of them. When did the side effects start? Like when did you notice it? After starting which med?

It definitely started with the Geodon and it didn't start until I had been on Geodon for a few years...but it's such a good medication for me. I'm feeling pretty miserable right now from the Latuda. I really don't know what to do because I seem to be really sensitive to all antipsychotics. I really hate to give up the Geodon because I feel like it gave me my life back.

We tried lowing the dose of the Geodon and it seems to be helping.
