My meds have been up and down, switch from this to that... back to this... higher doses of that. You all know the drill.

But, here's a fun fact: some anti-depressants may cause birth control to be less effective. So now I'm freaking out a little. This would be my second, and I feel now pretty much EXACTLY like I did right before I found out I was pregnant with my first. Lower abdominal flutters, random nausea, headaches, wanting to eat every salty thing I can lay my grubby little hands on. And craving tomato sauce... like right now just thinking about it made my mouth literally water. omg... that sounds amazing.

Anyway... moving on...

I stopped taking my birth control once I thought there might be a possibility. I tried to stop Effexor cold turkey but I kept having brain shocks and facial numbness. So the "cold turkey" idea lasted all of about a day and a half. I just didn't want anything to hurt the baby in potentia. It would be about another week before I can test with any kind of accuracy.

I guess I just needed to vent or something.

Effexor is pregnancy class C, which means there is possible risk, but the benefit may outweigh the harm. The concern is mostly related to third trimester, so if you are really early on you should be ok, and that will give you time to taper down slowly. There are other antidepressants that are used during pregnancy. Is there a reproductive psychiatrist you can see? Regular pdocs and primary care providers can refer. They will know best what is safe.
