I spent the last 8 months in a deep depression and all I did was sleep. I felt exhausted all the time. Well last Saturday I woke up and just started cleaning everything. All of a sudden I had all this energy. So I knew I had just cycled from low to high. I like it my house is spotless but I can't sleep. I'm averaging about 2 hrs night if that and yet I'm still full of energy. I know if I don't get some sleep soon I'm going to crash. I've tried everything xanex muscle relaxers, melatonin, etc they'll put me to sleep but I'm awake in an hr. And when I do sleep it's restless.
I've never had this experience before. Yes when I'm manic I have trouble sleeping but not like this. Normally when I take something I'm able to sleep for at least 4 hrs.
Anyone else experience mania like this?

Lack of sleep and the increase in energy is typical of going from a depressed to a hypo or even mania .. Best thing to do is call your Pdoc and let them know what is going on .. maybe that can give you something to help you get more sleep .

definitely sounds like you are manic. it is going to take a mood stabilizer to get you back on track. get in to see your doc as soon as you can. take care.

Yes, I get like that. I just wake up after one or two hours and I'm not tired at all. The downside is I don't clean, and I'm not happy or clever. I'm usually irritated and trying to start a fight with someone. Then the panic attacks and energy rush gets to be too much to handle and I'm eventually sedated.

Look on the bright side, at least you have a clean house now. Take care coming back down.

Hi, I just wanted to know regarding sleep. Is it when you are depressive and anxious or manic that you have little, or disrupted sleep?

Personally I don't sleep much during mixed states. That's the point when it feels like all hell is breaking loose.

I sleep a lot, or at least I'm tired if I don't, when I'm depressed.

Creative1oner it's when I'm manic, and sometimes when I'm really anxious. When I'm depressed I can sleep 10 hrs and still be so tired and exhausted 2 hrs after I wake up. I also have fibromyalgia so normally when I'm depressed I'm also in a lot pain. So even though I sleep a lot it's a restless sleep. My fibro dr says that I don't go into Rem sleep.

Unfortunately I don't have a pdoc right now. I had been seeing the dr that diagnosed me (so had my son) for 3 yrs. I had to cancel my sons appt because he was sick and I didn't have a ride (I had just broken my leg and had surgery). He called me back really pissed that I had cancelled. Anyways I lost it and fired him that instant. Of course I told him off first. So now I'm stuck. We can't afford to pay out of pocket right now, we already are for my sons pdoc & therapist. And no one near us that accepts my insurance, is taking new patients.

I keep telling myself that I will go to bed early today. Everyday I say this lately... But I never do! Nighttime is my energy time. Lately though, I get really drowsy around 3:00 pm in the afternoon. I can barely stay awake at all. Then evening comes and I am wired again. Weird.

Manic or not the most I can get is 5 hours tops. This has been going on since March, doesn't matter how much Seroquel my pdoc puts me on. She gives me the old BP and sleep lecture but there's nothing I can do about it. Nothing seems to help.

Well I haven't slept in 48 hrs and I'm finally getting tired. I think the muscle relaxer is aiding in that. Thanks everyone !

Clinically, the symptoms of both mania and depression include interrupted sleep.
