I am going to see my psychiatrist later today and thinking that I need a medication change because my racing thought are out of control. I am currently on neurotin, wellbutrin, zyprexa, and deplin. I was just wondering if anyone has a good idea for medication that has really worked for you. I know that everyone is different and reacts differently to medication, but just curious.

Yeah I have tried seroquil and it definitely slowed me down. I was like a walking zombie because I was on 800mg which made me gain 100lbs. Sorry but not a fan of that medication. I talked to my doc, and since I am not sleeping well he is putting me back on Trazodone (I had a bad reaction to ambien and lunesta). I think he wants to hear more about my residential treatment before he makes any other med changes, so I follow up with him again in two weeks.

I use to be on lithium but the side effects were hard. I was also on Depakote, but didn't like the side effects either. I'm now on a combo that offers little to no side effects.
I'm on Prozac for depression, Tegretol & Ability for mental stability. Best of luck in your search ![]()

Lamictal is helping me with racing thoughts. I am still ramping up to proper dose but it definitely seems to help. I do not know if it is suitable for your diagnosis though.

With the racing thoughts- you may want to consider googling mindfulness and try some of the exercises there. Also for me- playing cell phone games like Words with Friends, Rush Hour puzzles, Bejeweled can temporarily slow my mind down. Running and taking long walks seem to help as well. Unfortunately, reading seems to accelerate my racing thoughts- but for some people- it will help.
Keep in mind that with any medication switch- it may take up to a couple of weeks to become effective so you will need to come up with some strategies that can help to bridge the gap. For me- Depakote has worked the best for managing my manic symptoms. I originally started on 2000 mg due to the severity of my racing thoughts but I was able to taper down the medication to minimize the side effects. It did take me almost a year to go down to 250 mg. The combination of Depakote / Zyprexa did make me put on about 25 lbs- but I was able to lose the weight by going off Zyprexa and gradually lowering my Depakote. I know that no two people have the same reactions- but if you describe your symptoms (including your physical symptoms- how well you're eating, specific moods), then the more likely it is for your pdoc to identify the optimal medication for you. Good luck and let us know it goes! It does get better!
