I have been in an episode of depression for a few weeks. But this has been punctuated by much better moods. Most of the time the depression is still there. Does this still count as a mood swing into depression? Do moods fluctual like this while being in a major mood swing?

yes, counts as depression. you can have spurts of good moods, but if the overall mood is depression, it is a depressive episode.

Any other thoughts on this by anyone? I find that I have a few infrequent days where I feel almost "normal" most all days I feel mild to moderate depression, with a couple severely depressed days thrown in for good measure.

I think I agree that if the overall mood is depressed it is a depressed episode. When I'm in an episode I usually have one or two days of normal but then fall right back in to the episode so I know it was just a fluke.

I've been in a similar sort of funk all summer. Up, down, up, down, down, down, down, up, up and so on. I think it's a mild mixed episode because sometimes it even changes in the same day, and I'm not an ultradian cycler. Nothing I can't live with, but I'd sure like to have more UP days!
