I am actually looking for advice about my best friend. He has bipolar and anxiety. I have been there through his ups and downs, mostly downs and now he has changed. He told a friend of mine that he feels angry everytime I was around him. He told me many times that he was in love with me and now he is flipping the lines saying that I wanted more in our friendship. I knew there could not be more because of his mood swings. Its like he is blaming me for everything. I never discriminated him because of his mental illness, on the contrary I would try to get him to go out more so he doesnt have to stay home. I always tell him things will get better. I was hurt but I cannot force him to be my friend if he doesnt want to. He told me he is still my best friend even though we don't talk or hangout anymore. What type of friendship is that? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. He has been prescribed meds but is always complaining about them.

Right now you can give him his space. There are times when our moods require alone time. Fighting bipolar is a wearing task, that honestly, can never be defeated. He said you were still best friends so maybe he just wants to have time to go through what he needs without someone telling him he will be alright. In my mind, I know no matter how stable I am I'm never going to be alright. When I am "normal" I live in fear of the next episode, forever watching, forever anticipating. As far as the meds, I think it is normal for a lot of ppl not wanting to take them. The side effects are not the greatest. Just let him know you are there if and when he needs you. Thank you for sticking by him.

Maybe be supportive any way you can. He needs to deal with his own problems from time to time. Right now let him work it out by himself. You can call him every now and then, or wait until he calls you.
