Hello! So I have had a lot of problems lately with med changes and I realized that most people probably do. First off, I have Bipolar II and have taken a numerous amount of meds, still trying to find the right combinations. So I though maybe it would be great to get help on the numerous ways to attain new med changes when you need them and are unable to from your current doctor for some reason.
In my case, my doctor is off work for a few days, so I am unable to reach her though I am having awful mood swings. And I know there are many other reasons for being unable to get a med change so here are some I put together. I though if you know any as well you could add. Thanks so much. I really need the help and so do many others.

1. First Line Of Defense is getting a psychiatrist.
if unable to
2. Ask primary doctor
if unable to
3. Go to ER in a medical emergency ( in my case severe depression of mania)
if not extremely urgent
4. join a help group which can connect you to new doctors

Your Pdoc should have a Pdoc covering his/her patients.

PCP's are usually hesitant to make psych meds, They just dont know enough about the meds to be honest.

ER's are even more hesitant to mess with Psych meds. You might get a day or 2 of a benzio but thats iffy also.

I would first call your Pdocs office / after hours phone number and follow the instructions.

If you just cant find help with Pdoc's and you feel unsafe go to the ER for help and safety.

Good luck and Welcome to PC

My t's office has a therapist of the day that I can call if she's not available and I need to talk, maybe your pdoc's office has something similar?
