How does a mother with bi-polar disorder, who feels she needs at least 7 hours of sleep every day, deal with motherhood when she may get barely 3 hours of sleep a day when a child is first born?
Are there models or practises that such women can follow so they can get less sleep...but still function? |

I just spoke to my mom and she gave me a very simple answer: Its called a nanny or a nurse.
New mothers apparently often hire a nanny or a nurse to stay with them during the first months of childbirth. They give them a break and feed and hold the baby, while mommy can rest. I also learned that bi-polar moms who are on medications don't even have to nurse the baby instantly, as they can provide formula as soon as the baby is born. It turns out that my sister, who is now an amazing mother...was never nursed. Just like me. If my sister can go without breast milk, anyone can. But still, I'd like to hear some experiences from or about bi-polar mothers. thanks |
