I was seen by a psychiatrist for the first time last month and was reading my After Visit Summary and saw the diagnoses were "bipolar 1 disorder mixed" (as the primary diagnoses) and also "cyclothymic disorder". I am new to all of this but from my research I don't think you can have both at the same time? Any idea?

Welcome aboard.

Sorry I'm unable to answer your question because I don't know but I'm sure someone here can shed some insight.

I'm BP1 and have had mixed episodes.

Not sure about the cyclothymic disorder .... I'm no expert but I wouldn't have thought you could have that kind of dual diagnosis.....can you ask your pdoc at your next visit?
