I'm a 20 year old guy that was diagnosed this year with a form of the bipolar spectrum that falls between BD2 and Cyclothymia. I've taken Lamotrigine for quite some time to control the depression/dysthymia episodes, however, my psychiatrist want's to put me on Olanzapine to control the hypomania. My hypomanic episodes aren't that severe, It's just that they are interfering with my sleep/energy cycles. I'm afraid that if I take it i'll feel "empty" and anhedonic like I did after taking Quetiapine (Another 2nd gen antypsychotic) and Mirtazapine (Antidepressant)

I was wondering if anybody here that has taken any 2nd gen antipsychotics, specifically Olanzapine, could share his/her experience with it.

Also, this is my first post here, be kind

I have been on and off Olanzapine for over 15 years. It works great with very tolerable side effects.

I have been on and off Zyprexa (olanzapine) for a couple of years, most recently for 7 months and counting. The first time I went on it I gained 25 lbs. in about four weeks; this time it's taken me a lot longer, and I haven't gained as much weight. It really helps me keep my head together, and I haven't had any major side effects, even though I'm diabetic and have to watch my blood sugar to make sure the med isn't causing it to go up. So far, so good.
