I don't understand myself even though I am also a person with BP. Currently many News stories with photos show Amanda Bynes laying on a bench in some huge Mall in L.A. I think it is. The story in AOL News does not show her on that bench, but instead talks about how sadly she is doing right now, and how many people do not understand mental illness including BP. The article, if you have not seen it, tells about all of it in general terms. The people who have mental illness; the people who see those with mental illness; what BP is; and the fact most people have no clue. Also how it effects people with mental illness looking for a job. So many people, including her parents, have done so much to try and get her help, and yet she is sleeping on some mall bench. Is this coming to an end soon? Will she pull though? Will she ever accept help, and not running off before receiving help offered to her? She has taken a huge fall, so what is in her future now? I think she is walking the thin line with one side perhaps deadly. Maybe she is at the bottom, and she takes the only way which would be up, or not.

It would be great if she could open up to the idea of being helped. Good discussion.

I saw that, I liked how they approached the entire MI with more objective POV than most articles that are only about getting views. Instead this article gave people on the outside a pause to think about the issues.

her whole situation has bothered me since the beginning. I hate that the entire world knows her business. I hate when my FAMILY and friends know what Im dealing with...let alone the whole world.

I don't really care about famous people and their problems. I'm sure there is a guy with bipolar disorder in a 3rd world country who has no support and is probably dead now.

I've kept up with everything. It looked like she was doing so much better until the tweets about her dad. I wonder if anyone truly looked into them to see if there was even a nugget of truth in it. I have put that I do not want my parents or older siblings involved in my treatment or finances at all. Though her parents have been supportive they shouldn't be her conservatory. Emotions with medical/financial decisions do not go together. A NICE small inclusive studio + $225/wk would cost far less then what is going on now. I feel her parents judgment is clouded, as any parents judgment would be.

As messed up as it sounds I'm glad there is so much media about it both how she's doing while stable and unstable. It's much easier for me to point to Amanda, or Robert Williams when explaining to my family what's going on with me without sharing my personal shyt.

The way I see this situation is .. She was IP for what 6 + weeks initially .. She got out and "doing well" then not long after she got a DUI, and then bam shes back in IP and then now shes out again and not looking very well.

Right now she is a train wreck, She either fell off the wagon or she just hasn't hit her " bottom" yet?

Shes got top notch care available to her , but she has to want to help herself. I hope she gets help and doesn't stay on this unsafe path.

My heart goes out to the poor sweet girl. Not only is she seriously mentally ill, but she was chewed up and spit out by Hollywood like so many poor child stars. Kids are not equipped for the kind of pressures that drive grown men to suicide.

I suspect the relapse overlaps with a manic or psychotic episode.

Withholding your compassion from one person isn't going to help another.

As far as famous people with mental illness I always think of Catherine Zeta Jones. She is beautiful and has it all- yet she has bipolar and I think her story was a huge eye opener to the public. Especially when she went IP for a "tune up". I was just telling my mom yesterday how I wished I had the money to be able to do that. I would love nothing more than to go away and get IP help for a month and not have to worry about the money.

Somehow it does make it better for me to know that these rich and famous people are laying on their couches unable to move and bogged down by the same thoughts I have. I don't mean that in a mean way- it just helps with the stigma of mental illness I think. I don't want to be on the cover of People talking about bipolar, but I would love to put it as my status on facebook and open up a discussion about it.
