Hey all, Two weeks ago I emerged from a deep 6 month long depression (sleeping 9-16 hours a day) and the very next day I had trouble getting to sleep and it has been that way since. If I didn't take medication to help me get about 5-6 hours I would hardly be getting any at all. The other thing I have noticed is that I am irritable and incredibly inpatient, my pace of speech is normal but my thoughts race. My mood is upbeat but not euphoric. I feel good about myself and the world. I have in the past experienced switching of moods from one pole to the other but normally my Hypomania is euphoric. My mania on the otherhand is usually dysphoric and crazy.

Anyone else experienced this? Maybe my body has slept enough and can do without it. I don't really know.

Hmmmmm. Sounds like there is a possibility you could be transitioning between phases. My hypomania isn't always happy go lucky. It can be impatient and irritable. You might need to see your pdoc to discuss med dosages if you are entering a hypo phase.

Be well.

Thanks Hooligan and fingers! I took some zyprexa (Olanazapine) and slept really well. It calmed my thoughts down too. Unfortunately I woke up feeling hungover so I'm not sure if I will keep taking it, although I don't feel so great after 2 hours sleep either. It seems like insomnia to me as I do miss the sleep but I do have other hypomanic symptoms. I don't see my pdoc for 5 weeks so I am just going to have to manage it on my own with the meds I have.

Sounds a bit like a mixed episode. Could you at least call the pdoc to see if he/she can do anything before your next meeting?

It could be a mixed episode. So far the zyprexa is allowing me to get enough sleep and I feel good, although irritable, during the day so I think I will hold off calling my pdoc. Maybe I can ride this one out. I only saw my pdoc last week, just before all this started, so I don't want to bother him unless it is necessary.

As of my experience, those hangovers you get from the Anti-psychotics, they don't last forever. You do get used to it. I find as long as I get between 8-10 hours sleep a night I am sweet as the following morning.

Saw my therapist today and he thinks I am hypomanic and I tend to agree. I hardly slept last night and today I hit the ground running. My mind was racing with all the things I can do around the house and I ran around the house for hours. I tried to have breaks but couldn't sit still. I am going to take Olanzapine (Zyprexa) to help me sleep and deal with the irritability. Think I will be fine. At the moment life is great.

Yes, I was feeling like a god while cleaning and organising and planning. It is an awesome feeling. Think I am going to do the same today. This is so fun

Wander - if you do not like the hangover, try splitting Zyprexa or have it dispensed in 2.5 mg pills. I think the smallest dosage is 2.5 mg. If you do not fall asleep, take another 2.5 mg.
Thanks for this!
