Hey all, I recently was finally released out of the hospital after a 5 month hypomanic-to-manic episode that ended in psychosis. I'm 20, this is the first time anything like this has ever happened. A psychiatrist at the hospital told me she thinks I'm bipolar. It's odd though, I didn't have the insane depressive crash that seems to be common with the disorder. Instead I've just been mildly bored. And what else is odd is that my mood hasn't fluctuated at all in the last month, even after I stopped taking my medication.
Does anyone else have it like this? I've been doing a lot of looking and I haven't seen anyone with BPD like mine. |

I started out with BP-NOS as my preliminary diagnosis. I hated it because it put me in limbo (was I really bipolar or not??) and gave me a reason to think I was maybe just having an existential crisis. I didn't really take it seriously until the meds got serious, and even then I wasn't totally convinced. But eventually I had a crisis that resulted in my current diagnosis of bipolar 1.
Sometimes it takes awhile to get a definitive diagnosis, as this illness can be confused with several other conditions. Please don't worry about the ambiguous diagnosis, you don't want this label if you can avoid it.

Hi, I'm also bipolar NOS. I have more hypo mania usually and I have low laying depression. It's really rare for me to have a really deep depression. However, one big thing with me is I have a lot of mixed states. And I'm also a rapid cycled, so mixed and rapid, a very roller coaster existence. My cycles are pretty stable at least, lasting anywhere from 3-7 days each.
I'm hoping to get clarification on my Dx in the future. I was Dx'd in 2009. And my treatment has been sporadic because of money. I now have a T associated with a pdoc but due to financial reasons I didn't get in for an appt yet.
