My scenario has been since my situation arised, that I will go periods of getting up early and going to sleep early which I very much prefer. But it will instantly change, and I will gradually stay up later and later, rise later and later, until...

I may be on to something. Until I have another mixed up, all over the place, up and down, angry and mad, and depressed melt down. Trazadone did well to get me sleepy at first, but I think it's losing it's effectiveness. And in the subconscious mind, I don't want to go to sleep because I have to wake up to the same life tomorrow with the exception of having one day less in front of the horse than riding in the back of the cart.

Chronic Insomnia since I was 12 .. I very very seldom have a semi stable sleep schedule.

Good sleep hygiene is really one of the most important tools to help staying stable. Just not everyone has the ability to have such a thing

My sleep patterns vary significantly and I can switch from hypersomnia to insomnia overnight. Just recently I switched overnight from sleeping 12-16 hours a day while very depressed to hypo manic and sleeping about 4 hours a night. Every night I never know what's in store.

My sleep patterns are crazy too. I have been mostly depressed this year and tended to stay in bed a lot of the time, sleeping too much but staying in bed even awake 'cos I couldn't face getting up. Still depressed but tending towards psychotic, up all night, sleep just a couple of hours around dawn, spend night agitated and anxious, pacing around, feeling scared. Fed up with this!

Personally I don't know about being as rapid as overnight for me but yes in a short time frame it can certainly alter if I'm starting to experience anxiety or my mood is beginning to shift.

Yep. Throughout a week, I can do a 14-hour night, then be 8-9 hours for a while, and then 3-hour nights.

Yes from day to day. One night I may be up all night unable to fall asleep the next exhausted and can't get out of bed.

If you got an iPhone try sleep cycle. It's pretty awesome. Keeps an eye on your sleep. Pretty awesome. Bought it 4 days ago
