I deal with a number of side effects: 40lbs weight gain, memory loss and poor cognition skills, hair loss, and one unmentionable. These are just the ones that effect me greatly. My question is, is this normal? Is this a typical amount of side effects that someone on bp meds deals with? I'm just trying to make some decisions about my meds and would love feedback. Thanks!

End of the day it's up to you. Yes that sounds like a bit much and me personally would look for different meds but it depends on how well the meds work and if your willing to deal with them.

That looks like a lot if meds to me. I take 5 mg of Abilify and it gives me a zombie effect. I cannot imagine 30 mg of Abilify. That just blows my mind thinking about it. The typical amount for bipolar is 15 to 20 mg. Are you really that bad off where you need 30 mg?
Plus, you're taking all of those other meds. Maybe you should talk to your pdoc.

I have the zombie effect also, it is one of the worst effects actually, I just forgot to mention it. I am not currently that bad off, just was at the time she increased it. I have read that the effectiveness of Abilify rubs off after 15 mg but haven't asked her about it though. I am switching pdocs this month anyway. At this point I am not sure what meds cause what effects. I want to just stop all of them. I'm not certain I can realistically though. I am going to talk to the new pdoc ( who I used to see).

Sounds like a sit down with the Pdoc and review every medication and every side effect your dealing with 24/7.
When I was on Meds , I had a list of deal breakers for me when it came to side effects and I did not budge and my pdoc understood and worked with me to find a solution that we could agree on. Only YOU can decide what you can and can not tolerate. ![]()
