Two days ago I started Effexor for depression and I was napping all day and sleeping a long time. I was dizzy and could barely function. Has anybody else had these side effects with Effexor XR and will they go away? I started a job last week and I can't lose it because of side effects but I have been suicidal so I need to take an antidepressant.

Sorry to hear you are getting these side effects. When I took effexor I had similar side effects and they did pass. It took a week or two from memory (It was years ago). This drug is known for its side effects but also for its effectiveness as an antidepressant. I hope it works for you. I am now on Pristiq, a newer version of effexor. It doesn't have as many side effects for me. In fact none after the first few days.

I haven't tried that, however I have had similar concerns with meds. My response is to quickly let the Dr's office know how strong the side effects. Sometimes they recommend taking a half pill or taking them at a different time of day.
