I knew I was different since I was an adolescent. My moods were always unpredictable. I think most of my life I have had manic episodes and a couple depressive episodes. I have always had terrible insomnia, irritability that came out of nowhere, hyper sexuality that was difficult to control, terrible with money management, and sometimes just "feeling high" and riding that high for a period of weeks.

Up until now I have probably had at least 5-6 severely manic events per year. One time even ended my long term relationship of 5 years. I was so out of control.

I have always been very hypomanic. I think that is how I was able to work full time and do nursing school full time. I was so productive and focused.

Luckily now after a 5 day inpatient session, I feel stabilized on my medications. I am on Depakote 250mg extended release 3 times per day. I take seroquel 100mg at night (I can finally sleep I do have some nightmares though). I also take wellbutrin 100mg in the am. I love it!

I am in a relationship with a guy who is so understanding of my diagnosis! I feel lucky.

Also- the positive of being bipolar, music has always been AMAZING. My mood is so sensitive to music, I still feel that way even on the meds I love it!

Hi Reani, welcome to Psych Central (PC) Congrats on getting on meds that help you. Don't let anyone talk you out of taking your meds. That has been the mistake of others that slipped back into their old state.

If problem with meds, email your pdoc (psychiatrist) or call them up and tell them what is not working. Adjusting meds is a normal thing.

Many forums here. Hope you find nice people as I have here at PC.

It's great to hear from people who have struggled and are currently winning the fight. I hope you can stay where you are, continue to enjoy being stable and can continue rebuilding. Grr, I can't express myself properly today, but I am trying to say in a really awkward way - well done you - enjoy!!!

Welcome to PC!

I was similar to you - I worked full-time and went to school full-time with a house full of toddlers. At the time not sleeping made perfect sense to me...LOL. Now I know better

I hope the meds continue to work for you.

Interesting to hear a description of music as something really intense. I have also had that reaction to music often.
