So I had some blood work done the other day and come to find out my testosterone is less than a 1/3 of where it should be and I am now starting a testosterone replacement program. My question is if anyone here with bipolar has undergone this treatment have they experienced a increase in mania episodes? Oh and I am a 41 yo male if that helps any. Thanks in advance.

My testosterone was way down too...I was put on testosterone replacement (injections). It didn't increase my manic episodes at all. I finally got sick of injecting my self every week and quit.

I think it should be okay.
If your testosterone levels are low, they're being boosted to function at optimal levels. I'd assume to say, in a personal opinion and not as a medical one, men who function on an optimal amount of testosterone shouldn't be influenced into a mood swing by having a normal amount of testosterone. I'm pretty sure your levels will be monitored so you don't slip over or under the optimal amount. If you do start noticing symptoms of irritability or aggression this is certainly something you can bring up with your pdoc. I think you'll be ok though. |
