I know this sounds stupid, but my friends in high school and some of the friends I have now do drugs and it was something I've always wanted to try socially but was too afraid to because I had no idea how that would affect my bipolar disorder, and I didn't want to end up in a hospital or something. I've tried marijuana and I reacted very negatively to it, and I know that hallucinogenic drugs would be too scary for me and dangerous, but I wanted to know if there are any drugs out there like Molly that aren't so "dangerous" or if you've experienced it, how has it affected your symptoms?

Hi there. I am Bipolar and am dual diagnosed with Poly Substance Abuse. I can tell you from personal experience that drugs and alcohol to make your bipolar symptoms WORSE !!!! They may seem to help in the beginning but you are undoing what the psych meds are supposed to be doing.
Thanks for this!

Hi drskipper

It's not a stupid question.

You don't know if you don't ask.

I completely second Kristen.

It'll mess around with your psychiatric meds.

You don't want to dabble with that.

Marijana never worked for me either. Couldn't tolerate it. Caused extreme paranoia and hallucinations.

Any kind of non-prescribed drug - is just not going to be good for us.
Thanks for this!

Molly gave me a migraine for 3 days. I ended up in the ER having a shot because of the migraine. That med caused a hallucination and they had to give me an AP injection. That's how I found out I'm allergic to bananas. It made me never want to do it again. My husband had a good experience with molly. He was horny for 16+ hours but couldn't finish.

We don't drink as it's a downer. We smoke weed occasionally. I used LSD and alcohol as a kid to self medicate. Speed makes me manic. I won't touch those again. It sucks to not be able to touch alcohol but whatever. My rule was/is nothing sniffed or injected. Honestly just like everything else it effects everyone differently. If you do choose to use catch addiction early.

They are right it will mess up your medications. Many doing it are self medicating self. I was 61 - 62 when diagnosed BP. I had drank good amount more or less, smoked pot college yrs, cigarettes. After being diagnosed I stopped it all including cigarettes. Not a stupid question. Never let another talk you into it. Drunks like drunks and druggies like to share with people like them. You never know the out come and for too many, it's horrible.
They can't get out from under it and of course they never get diagnosed. What about just now and then? Don't do it. You'd be kicking yourself in the ***.

I mean, the easiest answer is to tell you to stay away. That's probably the best answer too. You eliminate any potential for catastrophic failure by simply abstaining.

That being said, under the right conditions I could see a lower dose of molly, ketamine or even mushrooms as harmless. I stress, under the right conditions (mental and environmental). Shoot, could be beneficial, all three of the drugs I listed have shown promise in treating depression and/or ptsd.

Bottom line, it's not a decision to be made lightly. Be safe. If you decide to take the plunge, make sure you get it from someone you trust. Make sure you a sitter (a sober person to be the voice of reason) and do it a comfortable place you know.

Good luck, have fun, and remember, drugs are bad mmmmm'kay.

I don't recommend experimenting with street drugs of any kind. They can interact very badly with psych meds. Recently I tried going back to MJ after some 10 years away from it, and it helped land me in the hospital by increasing my depression and paranoia. I also hallucinated (saw cats running under the linen carts in the ER). It's SO not worth it.

DON"T DO IT!!! My husband is bipolar and drugs are one of the biggest issues he struggles with. He has hopped from stuff like cocaine and x to lsd. Especially when he's manic it will amp up his mania but he ends up crashing even worse. Especially with LSD and MDMA. They make his depression zoo much worse. He's been sober for about a yr but its still a big issue and struggle to resist it but dear lord it makes it so much worse.

May not be a stupid question, but starting illicit drugs of any kind sounds like it would be a stupid decision. Why even risk that? I've never understood that. Seems like shooting yourself in the foot.

I under stand the want or need to feel better but for many like me who thought I could do it w/out any bad repercussions. I was wrong. I have paid a heavy price. I know you have to make your own choices but being BP I would really advise against it. Im BP+

Personally I stay away from anything stronger than MJ, and that is like once every 6 months. lol

My Daughter who has Bipolar I tried Acid a few months ago , She was with trusted friends and she had no problems at all , enjoyed it.... But She only takes Lamictal for her Bipolar, So I am sure the lack of AP's and other stuff in her body was a major part in her being ok.

She said she really has no further desire to to try anything. As one of her BP friends wound up IP for psychosis from he hit of acid...

I would say "if" you were to try anything make sure you have very trusted friends with you.

Just stay safe .

How old are you? I mean I can see wanting to try things when you are young, but if you are older, Be happy you have not developed an addiction. They are easy to develop with bipolar.

TRUE! Coming down is the worse, say from amphetamines or cocaine. When I'm detoxing and I go into a depressed state at the same time, the heavy suicdal thinking kicks in.

This is not a stupid question and I wish more teens would ask it. Doing drugs on a bipolar mind leads you down a long wrong road. I was untreated because I didn't know and I spent the next 20 years as a drifter, going from city to city, girl to girl, life to life.

It's the long term affects nobody is seeing. Thanks for asking and please don't do it.

Now I am going to ask a stupid question. What is Molly? (And OP your question was not stupid!)

Molly is the purest form of ecstacy, aka the love drug.

I am bp and I'm on quite a bit of psych drugs and I smoke mj here and there. Amazingly it actually helps my depression and anxiety. Every case is diff meaning how a body reacts to the mj. I would never try the hard stuff. And I'm not here trying to say that drugs are ok by my smoking mj .im just expressing myself. And yr question was awesome! It's totally great that you asked. After reading some of these posts it makes me think I shouldn't be doing mj

As a former paramedic/critical care nurse I have always been afraid to try anything except alcohol and weed. I saw a 22 y/o guy die from global myocardial infarction (heart attack) after he had done cocaine. We tried to save him but nothing worked.

When I was raising my son I told him what different drugs do to the body so he would know why he should be wary rather than just saying 'don't do drugs'.

For some people that one dose is beyond what they can handle. I've always heard it, that first and one hit can kill you. FEELING LUCKY?

As I take my first try...will I be alive later? Think about it.
