Does anyone have any experience with being BP I and taking Adderall? My husband found all good research on it, but all I could find was that it could make me manic. I need something to keep me focused on my schoolwork during the semester. I do know that I used to take Provigil and then Nuvigil and it made me manic because I took it too long. I had to be hospitalized. I just need to find something that will help me with school and possibly to retain more information because it seems like my short term memory is not what it used to be. I take 60mg and 80mg of Geodon morning and night, and 100mg Lamictal twice a day. I've been on them for about 5 years now.

What about talking to your pdoc (psychiatrist) about your situation. A professional evaluation would most likely be more helpful than checking others opinions.

It could be the Lamictal that's tweaking your short-term memory a bit. It's a common side effect. You're at 200 mg/day, which is thought to be a therapeutic dose in most cases. I'm on 400 mg and I feel dumber than an entire bag of hammers, but it's better than having the wild ups and downs on the mood spectrum.

I guess all you can do is ask your doctor if you can try it, but as you know there is always the possibility of getting manic. Maybe he'd let you come down a little on the Lamictal rather than risk putting you on a stimulant. Call or go in and see him as soon as you can. His opinion is worth a lot more than that of strangers on an anonymous Internet forum. Good luck.

I'm BP1, and I've never had any problem with stimulant medication causing mania. This doesn't apply to everyone, though. Caffeine can set me off sometimes while amphetamines can't.
