I have 2 kids age 7 and 5. I see some bipolar traits in my 7 yr old. Is this too young of an age to see this?

Dunno. I worry about my 9 year old sometimes. If you ask me, I don't think anyone is stable enough until their 20s to really diagnose anything, unless they have a psychotic break or something. That's my O.

Years ago Doctors never even would consider such a diagnosis on a child. That said if your seeing things in your kids that make you wonder? by all means have them see a Therapist and see what he/she has to say... You certainly don't want your kids given a diagnosis/Label unless it is a certain thing.
I wasn't diagnosed until age 43.. that said my T and I have traced back my first signs of BP to age 6. Please don't assume that just because you have Bp I means your kids are going to have it. I have zero family history of any illness. Maybe for your own piece of mind have your kids see a Therapist that deals with Children. Good luck and Welcome to PC ![]()

Both your kids should see a child therapist. It'll help them understand what is going on with you and if there is anything they need help with. My son is adhd, asd and BP but he's record says inpulse disorder. He's on abilify and daytrana patch. His first suicide atempt was at 8yrs old. The therapist can tell if your 7 year old needs meds.

if he is a early shower ........nothing will really be there until preteen years and the body does all that changing thing that is when it will really show up if it is something
other wise might be good until 25-30 that is the other time it can show up |

Different schools of thought on this one reading through the comments.
I sometimes scratch my head when my kids do something and "I wonder" ..... And then I think nah they're just kids. So it's an inbetween one for me. Kind of just enjoying them being kids really without being paranoid at this stage. But that's just my personal view only. |

I think building a relationship where your child feels safe enough to tell you if something is wrong/doesn't feel right & you taking their concern seriously w/out judgement will help you more. I'm not sure seeing a therapist is the play atm unless you see red flags in behavior.
