It has pulled me out of major depression twice. It happened the first time it was prescribed to me and it happened again after I had stopped taking it. I got depressed and started it again. I've experienced no side effects (that I am aware of) and clearly this now will stay in my cocktail. I have no idea if it is supposed to do that but it did. My one complaint: it tastes AWFUL!

I've been on it for about a month now and I love it. It helps a lot with my racing thoughts and my depression.

Saphris it's the title of the thread
![]() Saphris has been a life saver for my hubby and it pretty much saved our marriage. He does cheat and puts a tic tac in his mouth with it. So far it doesn't seem to affect it getting into his system and he said it REALLY helps with the taste. |

I must be weird, because I didn't mind the taste. To me it was no worse than something like chloroseptic, that just tastes medicine-y and numbs your tounge. It dissolves as soon as it hits your mouth. But I didn't put it directly on my tongue either, I put in-between my cheek and gums.
Unfortunately, I didn't have a good experience on it. But I know for a lot of people it's a wonder drug. I hope it works for you!

I was on it for about 2 years. Initially it helped get me out of depression, which was great because i had tried a ton of med combos at the time, and nothing was working. Taking it with a tic tac really helps with the taste. Anyways, eventually the depression lifted and my life was going well, except my emotions were flattened, and my affect was blunted, with little expression. So about 9 months ago i decided to try coming off, so i lowered my dose from 10 to 5, but the depression started to come back so i went back to 10. I did that a few times. But i was determined to come off so i could get my emotional range back, so about 5 months ago i started reducing the dose, and i cracked the discs in half to go down more gradually. The withdrawal was awful - flu like symptoms, anxiety, no sleep for days, but i managed to come off of it 4 months ago, and got my emotions and expression back. It was ok until a couple weeks ago, because the depression is coming back, so i'm considering trying something else.
Overall it was a helpful drug for me when things were really bad, but it leveled off at a baseline lower than what i wanted. I think it is a good drug in general, despite some of the negatives i experienced. I don't think everyone gets the flattening.

i started on it. didnt like it. it made my communication difficulties worst in my autism. i also got sick after 2 days of being on it(not your usual sick). they switched me to seroquel then. and it i never will take saphris agian. but i like the name lol- oh! and it dropped my redblood cells in my blood to a severely low level(one cause of the getting "sick"). of course its different for others and might not have the same results with everyone, or anyone .

I've been on it now for about 5 months and it is keeping my moods level and also helps me sleep. The only thing I don't like about it is taking it sublingual. It numbs the tongue right after taking it and I think it has had an effect on my taste buds. But it works to well for me to stop taking it.

I'm on Lamotrigine (Lamictal) and saphris. I have been on saphris for about 12 months and initially had reactions of paranoia with hearing and seeing things. I was also on Seroquel at the time. He backed down the Saphris to 5mg and he switched me from Seroquel to Lamictal (way less side effects on Lamictal, no zombie effect, not always tired etc) For me the combination works quite well and I am not keen to mess with it. Side effects are minimal compared to other medications I have tried. No more issues with paranoia on the lower dose of Saphris.
All the best ![]()

For some I believe this works really well. Unfortunately for me I did not have much success with it in terms of stabilizing my mood. |

Saphris is great. It is very fun to take; it tastes like cherries and it makes your tongue numb. Much better than swallowing a boring pill!
I still have hallucinations on it (though fewer than I did before) and my mood stability was better on zyprexa. But zyprexa has nasty side effects. Good luck with it!

I took it for about 2 years. It helped stabilize me, so that was really good, but it ended up flattening my emotions. My facial expression was flat, and I didn't like how I felt. So i took myself off it against pdoc advise, which i know is usually a bad idea, but i felt i needed to do it. Coming off it was hard because the withdrawal lasted about 2 weeks. I've been doing ok since (stopped in Aug), but I did go through a really bad depressive episode in Dec, so that might have been part of the reason. Anyways, my feelings about it are mixed.
One thing though, my dose was 10 mg, and i tried taking it one night when i had been off it for a while. It hit me so hard! Put me into a weird half asleep/half awake state with akithesia that lasted a few hours. So if i take it for sleep again i'm going with a lower dose, but i probably won't take if again. Point is, start lower and build up.

I have been on saphris (and lamictal) for quite some time now. I definitely haven't been manic in a while, but a mild depression remains. Good luck with it.

The withdrawal was anxiety, insomnia, and mild flu-like symptoms. Flu symptoms were hot and cold chills, and nausea. The anxiety and insomnia were the worst part. I didn't sleep for several days, and barely slept for a couple weeks. I tried lowering my dose several times before actually stopping because i couldn't make it through the anxiety, and i would start to get depressed, but i didn't know if it was actual depression or rebound from withdrawal. I think without saphris i am more at risk of future mood episodes, especially if i have a lot of stress. But it's worth the trade off for me. I wouldn't recommend or not recommend anyone else do this, it's too individual, but I'm glad i did. I kept my lamotrigine and wellbutrin, and i added a little seroquel at night for sleep. So i didn't totally stop meds.
