I am so grateful that I searched for and found this online support. I view myself as an introvert (probably agoraphobic, but that is undiagnosed) , and I find it particularly challenging to go out. At times, I resent the fact that this extroverted world seems, most times, to expect introverts to "get over it" and "improve" by acting more like them. I prefer not. I like who I am. Recognizing the importance of balance, I find great peace and energy by myself.

Reaching out to others through this medium is a nice balance between being who I am and recognizing that, ultimately, no person is an island. I find great peace reading about others who are struggling through the same things that challenge me. It is somehow nourishing to know that I am not alone in my mental health issues, if that makes any sense. Not that I want others to suffer. Somehow, though, reading stories that resonate, I find, is somewhat therapeutic. Maybe that's why my mental health providers focus so much on group therapy.

I just wanted to say how grateful I am for this forum and for all of you.

hi kitty
i am agoraphobic and i am just fine with it too. my therapist tries to get me to go do things, to which i freak out, so she then leaves it alone. it is kind of a tentative subject with her...lol. i am glad you found us too. welcome to psych central. you will find we have several forums where you can post about your concerns and receive feedback from other members. you will get a lot of support here. again, welcome

7kitty, I second your emotion of gratefulness. It is not natural for me to be having so many people in my orbit. I stumbled onto this forum while googling and it really rang a harmonious chord.

And I am also grateful for people like you that visit Psych Central and make it one of their places online to visit and make acquaintances. Thank you for all your kind words.

I also enjoy being on my own. I like my privacy and peace and quiet. But i like going out for lunch almost every day by myself. I just discovered this nice, cozy, quiet café that i can get to fairly easily on the bus. It is my new favorite spot. I have my big meal of the day in the early afternoon as i don't like to cook and then i do my Scrabble studying. It's so nice to be still yet have an engaging mental activity to do on a full stomach. Food makess me high! The forum suits me fine for the little bit of human contact i want. Welcome!
