So, I been having issues with stability lately -- been up one day, down the next....with most days in the down category. (right now I am definitely up).

I have been a number of different meds in that last year, currently on Wellbutrin XR, and Gabapentin 900mgs 3x a day.

I recently (month ago) went off Zoloft cuz it completely killed my sex drive...like it just didn't exist. It was like I was perfectly fine without sex at all...didn't even cross my mind...crazy cuz normally I a pretty sexual person, as my wife can attest to.

Before that I was experimenting with Abilify but it made me completely manic....like totally full blown manic, not my normal hypo.

Prior to that I had a very bad week on Geodon -- nightmare.

So I have been struggling with meds merry-go-round. Funnily I read about people going through this when I first joined this thread thinking -- that won't be me, I am not that bad...then I came to realize, wait -- I maybe high functioning at work, but in my personal life I am the most definitely very unstable from day to day, hour to hour.

So, I guess the point is, if Gaba and Wellbutrin and the others I have mentioned aren't working quiet right? What other meds have people found effective for mid-level type 2 bipolar?

Outta curiosity.

Have you been prescribed a mood stabilizer? The meds you listed are for depression and anxiety.

gaba supposed to work as a mood stabilizer as well -- trying abilify...made me manic -- also I can't take anything that has abuse potential, cuz I WILL abuse it. Free admitted as much to my doc....as recovering alcoholic, I have no problem admitting that.

Sorry you're going through this-can definitely relate. Had the same experience with Zoloft & Paxil, tried the gabapentin too-I have several co-existing issues -& right now my symptoms are being managed very well. Adding a mood stabilizer made a huge difference-as with all other psych meds there are numerous ones to try & it will take some trial & error probably to find that sweet spot. I also exercise & a lot, good diet, meditate, weekly therapy etc. Med wise I'm currently on Prozac, Propranolol, Depakote & Ambien. Good luck.

Lamictal is all the rage for mood stabilizers. No abuse potential or lab work needed.
