Hello,
I was having what I thought were psychotic symptoms back in September. I was also having some strange new symptoms since about 12/17/2014. I was severely depressed and had been taken off of my antipsychotic in July. I tried many antipsychotics from July to September, but none of them were tolerable. Anyway, things seemed to clear up after being put back on my original antipsychotic. However, I’ve had scattered psychosis. For example, hearing voices upon occasion and seeing things briefly that aren’t there. Some delusional thoughts (thinking God has a special plan for me, because I am extra special). My psychiatrist doesn’t seem worried about my symptoms at all. It is sometimes kind of freaky when I think about it. My sleep is also horrible lately, but that might be due to some physical issues. Additionally, I think I have been slightly hypomanic as I have been on a shopping spree and have been having extreme bursts of energy throughout the day even though I am tired. It is weird. I am changing my pdoc, due to her misdiagnosis of acathesia, which cause me a whole mess of issues, stress, and hardship. I am wondering if I should be concerned about the possible psychotic symptoms. I had never experienced this sort of thing before without medications, and it started basically after I went off of the antipsychotic, but I am still having issues while being back on one. Oh and I want to also add that I did hear things and was delusional while on a particular medication back in November and December of 2013. However, I went off of the medication and what I was hearing and my delusional thoughts went away. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you. __________________ Dx: Schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type

Hi there,
Thank you for sharing spincera. I would agree that these would be called psychotic symptoms. Here's the thing though - when I went for decades ignoring, not even wanting to learn the details of what the illness meant, and even didn't understand which symptoms were coming from the bipolar - I thought that it was just me being my unique, imaginative, tuned in, gypsy self. I wasn't 'concerned' because it was just me. Now that I know which is random thoughts, and which are being caught in a delusion I document and I try to help myself respond by thinking not just in the moment, but by thinking what I might do on other days. Your doctor not being too concerned in my opinion is because he/she knows it is just symptoms of your diagnosed illness and you are not over-responding in some extreme way to what you are experiencing. Also, you are taking meds and they work better some days then others. I think these things never go away. At least that is true in my situation, I have some periods which are normal and others more extreme. I would suggest documenting. This has helped me to remember not to get as caught up in a delusion - I realize I am experiencing something that I experienced before and it went away then, so maybe its not as extremely important as I am reacting at that moment. I hope this was understandable, and helpful. Best of luck to us all. __________________ BEST OF LUCK TO US ALL! 600 mg Trileptal (oxcarbazepine) 30 mg Atarax (hydroxyzine) 8 mg Trilafon (perphenazine) Bipolar 1 - Borderline Personality Disorder - Generalized Anxiety Disorder - Eating Disorder |
