Yes, in a way. I get minor depressions and mild hypomania a couple times a year, but major depressions and mania/extreme hypomania only happens every few years, usually at times of stress or trauma. But once i go into a serious episode it can take over a year to come out of it, sometimes longer. I think long cycles are part of the reason that i wasn't diagnosed until 29, even though my symptoms started around age 11. Also the long cycles mean people can know me for quite a while and i seem totally fine, and then things go off the rails and it surprises and scares people. I haven't had any extreme elevations in a few years, but went through a couple depressions. Hoping things will stay stable long term now.

I can be stable for years. Then I can sink into bad depression for many months. Lost jobs because of this.

My cycles are long. Months usually. The shortest has been a 4 week hypomania, up to 6 month hypomania, last year I was 7 months in a mixed state, usually my depressions last 2 - 14 months. Occasionally I will have a blip - depression for a couple weeks but thats not nearly as severe and I can get myself out of it without any extra assistance.

Unfortunately the PMDD has come back so I get an agitated depression for 4 - 9 days each month, but it passes as the hormones do. Going back to my medical team to get that sorted.
